Neighborhood of ‘Hollywood elite’ on high alert when grandfather pushing baby in stroller is randomly attacked

Just one day after security camera footage caught a man viciously punching a Calabasas, California, grandfather who was pushing his infant grandchild in a stroller, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) announced the thug had been arrested in Oxnard.

The vicious attack occurred in the 4000 block of Lost Spring Road on Tuesday in a neighborhood that Khloe and Kris Kardashian call home, according to DailyMail.com.

The disturbing video of the attack was uploaded to Neighbors and shared with KTLA.

In it, a man driving “a silver 2005 Honda Odyssey with Nevada license plate 183W80” is seen approaching the Asian grandfather as he “was walking his infant grandchild in a stroller” and striking “the victim in the face” before driving off, LASD said in a press release.

The stroller, along with the 10-month-old baby, is seen tumbling to the pavement and the victim, 60, is knocked off his feet.

Both the grandfather and the child were okay, neighbors told KTLA, but they were “horrified” by the attack.

“It feels really random … this is a safe neighborhood and we’re all just absolutely horrified that something could happen here to someone doing something so innocent like walking their child,” resident Greg Higa said.

Mary Steele, another neighbor, said the victim and his grandchild are known in the community.

“The man who was attacked is a very nice community member,” she said. “He has a beautiful home, people know who he is and the baby is an innocent victim.”

“On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 2:15 p.m., suspect Angel Sanchez Jr. (male Hispanic, 29 years of age, resident of Santa Barbara) was located in the city of Oxnard, arrested, and booked at Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station for Assault with Force Likely to Produce Great Bodily Injury, 245(a)(4) PC, pending Magistrate Review,” LASD announced on Wednesday.

“Although both victims of the assaults were of Asian descent,” the sheriff’s department said, “the motive for the attacks is currently under investigation. ”

“The neighborhood is a Mecca for the Hollywood elite and in October 2023, the median listing home price in Calabasas was $2.4M, trending up 13.1 percent year-over-year, according to Realtor.com,” DailyMail.com reports. “The median listing home price per square foot was $764 and the median home sold price was $2million.”

“I’m just shocked,” neighbor Paige Johnston told KTLA. “You know, you watch the stuff on the news and then you think that everyone seems to say this, but it is, when it’s someone, when it’s your neighbor, and it’s, you feel like it’s a family member.”

“It’s a safe neighborhood,” Higa said. “We’ve lived here for 25 years, and this kind of thing that’s going on now is just, it’s really troubling. It’s got us all very concerned.”

According to KTLA, Sanchez Jr. is “believed to be connected to another attack that happened around the same time.”

“About half a mile where the grandfather was punched in that incident,” the outlet reported, “a teenager was attacked at a bike trail.”

LASD is. asking anyone with information about the stroller incident to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Malibu/Lost Hills Station, at (818) 878-1808.
