Newsom challenges DeSantis to throwdown: ‘I’ll bring my hair gel. You bring your hairspray.’

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, arguably America’s worst governor, has inexplicably challenged Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, arguably America’s best governor, to a debate.

It’s inexplicable because the two aren’t running against each other for anything. Not yet, at least, though rumors have it that both men intend to seek the presidency in 2024.

For the time being, however, Newsom is running for reelection in California, and DeSantis is running for reelection in Florida. They’re two completely different states.

To be fair, the inexplicable, wacky debate idea didn’t originate with Newsom. Instead, it came from radically far-left, so-called “journalist” Dan Rather.

“Here’s an idea for Chris Licht, the new head of @CNN. Set up a debate — one-on-one — between @GavinNewsom and @RonDeSantisFL. Two governors of big states, potential presidential candidates. Prime time. Ratings I bet would be huge. Who would have the courage to show up?” Rather tweeted late last month.

Late Friday, Newsom retweeted Rather’s tweet and added his own message:

“Hey @GovRonDeSantis, clearly you’re struggling, distracted, and busy playing politics with people’s lives. Since you have only one overriding need — attention –let’s take this up & debate. I’ll bring my hair gel. You bring your hairspray. Name the time before Election Day. @CNN,” he wrote.

Newsom has been attacking DeSantis for months now, with the latest onslaught coming after the Florida governor shipped 50 illegal aliens to Martha’s Vineyard.

To hear the California governor and every other Democrat in America tell it, flying illegals to one of the wealthiest enclaves in the country was somehow “cruel.”

It was so cruel, according to Newsom, that it compelled him to issue a formal request this week to the Department of Justice for them to launch an investigation:

During a press conference Friday, DeSantis responded to Newsom’s request with a zinger.

“So the governor of California sent a letter to the Department of Justice saying, ‘You need to prosecute Texas and Florida governors.’ And all I can say is, I think his hair gel is interfering with his brain function,” the Florida governor said.

Listen:

He had a point because according to the illegals themselves, there was nothing cruel about them being shipped to Martha’s Vineyard.

“They are not angry at Ron DeSantis. They are actually thanking him Desantis for having brought them to Martha’s Vineyard,” an MSNBC correspondent, to her credit, reported Friday.

Listen:

Sadly, their stay at Martha’s Vineyard was short-lived. As news of their arrival quickly spread, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, admittedly a Republican, mobilized his state’s National Guard and had them relocate the illegals to a military base in Cape Cod.

However, during DeSantis’ Friday presser, he vowed to fly/bus even more illegals to Martha’s Vineyard and other leftist enclaves in the coming days.

“There’s also going to be buses and there will likely be more flights, but I’ll tell you this: The Legislature gave me $12 million. We’re going to spend every penny of that to make sure that we’re protecting the people of the state of Florida,” he said.

As for Newsom, he’s been ratioed by an army of critics eager to point out that he must be out of his mind to challenge a successful governor like DeSantis to a debate, especially considering how much of a failure he himself has been.
