Poultry giant Tyson Foods latest corporation to announce relocation from crime-ridden Chicago

While Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot dances and sings, another corporation is bidding adieu to the crime-ravaged Windy City.

The chicken giant Tyson Foods announced in a news release this past week that it will be relocating offices in the Chicago area to its headquarters in Arkansas, with the move being billed as an effort to “foster closer collaboration, enhance team member agility and enable faster decision making,” the Daily Mail reported.

It also comes as Chicago experiences a 37% increase in violent crime and follows on the heels of Caterpillar and Boeing announcing plans to move out of Chicago in recent months. The Citadel hedge fund headed up by Chicago’s richest resident, Ken Griffin, is also relocating more than 2,600 staffers from their office in the crime-ridden city to South Florida, according to the British newspaper.

“Tyson’s diverse portfolio of products and brands provides us with an unmatched strategic advantage to serve our customers,” Donnie King, President and CEO of Tyson Foods, said in the news release.

“Bringing our talented corporate team members and businesses together under one roof unlocks greater opportunities to share perspectives and ideas,” he added, “while also enabling us to act quickly to solve problems and provide the innovative products solutions that our customers deserve and value.”

This all comes as McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski criticized crime in Chicago, where the company is headquartered, saying it’s “seeping into every corner of our city.

“What’s going on in Chicago?” Kempczinski asked, noting that it was getting difficult to recruit people in their downtown offices because they express concern about it not being safe.

“We have violent crime that’s happening in our restaurants … we’re seeing homelessness issues in our restaurants. We’re having drug overdoses that are happening in our restaurants,” he said while speaking last month at the Economic Club of Chicago. “So we see in our restaurants, every single day, what’s happening in society at large.”

Meanwhile, Mayor Lightfoot is dancing a jig and promoting a karaoke contest.

“It’s time to sing your hearts out, Chicago! Our karaoke competition is starting Sunday and will go until Nov. 6th. Now’s your time to shine,” she said in a TikTok post that included a video of her singing “Sweet Home Chicago” while decked out in shades and a smoking jacket.

Not a care in the world, it would seem.
