Scandal-plagued Platner’s woes open the door for rival in Maine Senate primary

The deluge of scandals that are plaguing Democrat Maine Senate hopeful Graham Platner’s campaign has cracked the door wide open for another candidate: current Governor Janet Mills.

Platner is reeling from growing questions about his character after revelations about the married oyster farmer’s texting of explicit sexual messages to women who weren’t his wife on top of his “Totenkopf” chest tattoo, a death’s head symbol sported by Adolf Hitler’s Jew murdering Nazi SS goons during WW II.

The Bernie Sanders-endorsed Platner is hoping to unseat longtime incumbent Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), but will first have to survive next week’s primary, and even though he’s heavily favored, there is a very real possibility that more dirt from his sordid past will be dug up in the coming days.

After suspending her campaign in April, Mills is reminding Maine voters that she is also on the ballot if they are looking for an alternative without the baggage.

“People have the impression that I ‘withdrew’ or ‘dropped out,’ but I simply suspended active campaigning. I am still on the ballot,” the governor told Lewiston Sun-Journal columnist Steve Collins on Sunday.

In another sign that Platner’s woes are her opportunity, the Mills campaign’s X account, which went dormant after the governor’s April 30 announcement that she was suspending her campaign, posted a message marking the beginning of Pride Month on June 1.

“Happy Pride Month, Maine!” Mills said. “Everyone deserves the freedom to live authentically and marry who they love without fear. I’m proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community, today and every day.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) recruited the Trump-hating governor to run against Collins, but Platner’s appeal as an everyman oyster farmer and his masculine image have resonated with voters looking for a change.

The “party crasher” was even recently featured on the cover of Time.

Having the approval of Comrade Bernie has also bolstered his hopes despite the Vermont senator’s well-established record of selling out his own supporters and hypocritically whoring himself out to Big Pharma.

But Platner’s momentum has been derailed by the sexually explicit texts, a bomb dropped on the great white hope’s campaign by his own wife, Amy Gertner, who shared details of the messages with a campaign aide. Not surprisingly, they ended up in the media with the couple currently in furious damage control mode.

As the scandals swirl, the top Senate Democrat who begrudgingly endorsed Platner is standing by his man – for now.
