‘Squad’ member Ilhan Omar calls Kamala’s embrace of Liz Cheney a ‘huge misstep’

A progressive postmortem spoke to faulty faux unity of Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign as one Squad member decried the Liz Cheney surrogacy.

Even before Harris had supplanted President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, the Middle East had proven a thorny issue as Hamas sympathizers mounted a protest campaign in hopes of steering closer to their desired anti-Israel outcomes.

Now, weeks after a resounding victory by President-elect Donald Trump included a sweep of the battleground states, Minnesota Rep. Ilan Omar (D) argued the Harris-Walz campaign had made a “huge misstep” in working with Cheney’s whose name was “synonymous with war.”

Speaking with the Minnesota Star-Tribune, the Somali-born congresswoman made particular note of how the vice president’s campaign had faltered in Michigan where swaths of Muslim voters had either sided with Trump, like Hamtramck Mayor Amer Ghalib (D), or held firm to the Uncommitted National Movement.

“You have one name for my generation and generations younger than me that is synonymous with war,” Omar told the Star-Tribune of Harris parading out the former Wyoming representative as a surrogate. “It does say something about where your priorities are even if those are not your priorities.”

She further chided the Harris-Walz campaign for offering to send staffers or consultants to meet with the Democratic mayor of Dearborn, Michigan whereas Trump sought a personal meeting with Mayor Abdullah Hammoud who turned down the opportunity while refusing to endorse either candidate.

“I think that personal touch for that community made the difference. We could have had that personal touch,” she went on without mentioning how fellow Squad member, MI Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D) had also opted out of endorsing the vice president, maintaining support for the Uncommitted National Movement founded by her sister Layla Elabed.

While Omar argued that the Trump administration would mean a “green light” for Israel to finish what she referred to as “their genocidal war,” her rhetoric ran contrary to the sentiments of Muslim voters who supported the GOP leader.

Ahead of Election Day, Ghalib noted of the community that historically voted Democrat, “The current administration has done nothing, and the war is expanding to other countries, and it could be a regional war and maybe even World War III. President Trump keeps saying that he will end the chaos in the Middle East, and I talked to him personally, I told him, ‘Your strength is that no wars happened during your term, so we want to stay that way.'”

Of course, supporters of Trump readily considered Cheney’s endorsement of Harris as more reason to back the GOP leader’s third White House bid as reactions to Omar’s take reminded the RINO’s support was only a small part of the vice president’s failure.
