House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) blasted Democrats over the accusation that President Donald J. Trump hijacked America’s 250th anniversary celebration.
The America 250 bash culminated in a massive fireworks display over the nation’s capital on Saturday, July 4, following a rousingly patriotic speech from Trump at around 11 pm after a delay due to inclement weather, capping off weeks of revelry marking the historic anniversary.
It should have come as no great shock that sourball Democrats and their ilk were in less than festive spirits for the occasion, with some vowing to investigate Trump by claiming that he made it all about him and exploited the occasion to enrich himself and his friends.
Comer said that the Democrats “would rather Donald Trump fail and America fail than celebrate the success of our founding fathers and the fact that we are the greatest nation on the planet” during a Fox News appearance over the weekend.

“We are the greatest nation in the history of the world. Anyone can become anything in America because of the sacrifices of our founding fathers, the sacrifices of our soldiers, the sacrifices of our American heroes, and that’s what last night was all about,” the GOP Oversight boss added, lighting up the Democrats on Sunday’s edition of “The Big Weekend Show.”
“President Trump made the focus about honoring our heroes and being proud to be an American, and all the Democrats want to do is say, “Oh, if you vote for us, we’ll investigate Trump for wasting money on an independent celebration that, oh by the way, mentioned Christianity even though our country was founded by people seeking freedom of religion,” he added.
“This is just a perfect example of the Democrats, and I think all they’re gonna do if they flip the House and become the majority in the House is investigate and harass Donald Trump,” Comer said.
Comer’s fiery remarks come as House Natural Resources Committee ranking member Rep. Jared Huffman (D-CA) hammered Trump in a 55-page report alleging the president “hijacked what was supposed to be a unifying, non-political celebration of our country’s 250th birthday and made it all about him – his vanity projects, his political and religious agenda, his business ventures, and his cronies who gorged on public funds under cover of a shadow corporation shielded from public scrutiny.”
Every American should be outraged by what Trump has done to our nation’s 250th birthday celebration. What should have been a once-in-a-generation moment to unite the country has been turned into another vehicle for division, propaganda, and political gain.

“Donald Trump’s hijacking of America’s 250th birthday will go down as one of the most corrupt, brazen abuses of public trust in presidential history, even by the dubious standards of this administration,” Huffman said in a statement.
“As our country prepared to celebrate a milestone that belongs to every American, Trump and his operatives launched a hostile takeover of the bipartisan commission established by Congress to lead the celebration. When that failed, they sidelined the commission, siphoned its resources, and infiltrated a beloved national charity under cover of a shadow corporation that shielded them from public scrutiny,” he continued.
“Then they proceeded to deceive donors, solicit foreign money, sell access to the President, award no-bid contracts to Trump loyalists, harvest Americans’ personal data, and push a whitewashed, Christian nationalist version of history,” the California Democrat claimed.
The party’s lackeys also wailed about Trump rather than celebrate America’s 250th birthday, with one New York Times columnist whining that “Trump Ruined the Fourth of July for Me” and former “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd kvetching that Trump didn’t only spoil the Fourth of July, but the national image as well.

“Trump’s doing all of us a favor by selfishly trying to steal this anniversary from us. We now see who he really is. So no, it’s not the celebration we deserve. It’s not the one we could have had. But we get a mirror, and the mirror is telling us something. The country is a lot bigger than Donald Trump. It is bigger than any president, and it’s obviously bigger than any political party. And there’s no one definition of patriotism,” Todd ranted on his podcast.
“This is why I’m so p*ssed off. Not because I love the country less, but because I love the idea of America enough to resent seeing it cheapened by this man,” the washed-up talk show host added. “America deserved better at 250. Some day, I believe it will get better. But it’s in your hands.”
“Together, we are also reasserting the truth that American strength and power is not something to be ashamed of. It is something that we are very, very proud of,” Trump said in his July 4 address, calling America a nation of winners. “This country has been the greatest force for peace and justice on earth in the last century. We defeated tyrants, demolished evil, and saved freedom again and again and again.”
“There is no challenge Americans can not overcome,” the president declared. “There is no place we cannot go. There is no goal we cannot reach. And there is nothing that Americans cannot do.”
