Trump attorney leaves legal team, but not before taking parting shot at DOJ ‘misconduct’

An attorney for former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago documents case announced his departure from the legal team Wednesday, a little more than one week after questionable comments were made at a CNN town hall.

Painting a story of frustration and infighting, CNN broke the news Wednesday that attorney Timothy Parlatore had stepped down from Trump’s legal team after speaking with the president. Kaitlan Collins, who broke the news along with Paula Reid, noted “The high-profile departure comes as special counsel Jack Smith appears to be in the final stretch of investigations into the possible mishandling of classified documents and efforts to obstruct the 2020 election.”

In his brief statement, Parlatore implied no ill will and signaled his continued support for the legal team he departed as he said, “It’s been an incredible honor to serve and work through interesting legal issues. My departure was a personal choice and does not reflect upon the case, as I believe strongly the (Justice Department) team is engaging in misconduct to pursue an investigation of conduct that is not criminal.”

The departure followed Trump’s town hall with CNN last week where analysts, salivating to see the former president found guilty of something, considered remarks related to the documents case to be damning.

“Here’s what Kaitlan Collins asked Donald Trump about those documents,” Glenn Kirschner said Friday on YouTube. “When it comes to your documents. Did you ever show those classified documents to anyone? Trump’s answer, not really. I would have the right to, but not that I can think of. Friends, I predict those incriminating statements will be introduced into evidence at the future trial of the United States of America versus Donald Trump.”

Collins and Reid went on to contend Wednesday, “The former president’s legal team has been rife with infighting for several months as his attorneys have dealt with the multiple investigations facing him amid his third run for office. Trump has privately expressed unhappiness with his large legal bills and asked why the investigations, namely the documents one, have not yet gone away.”

The CNN host reiterated that point on air when she played a clip of an interview with Parlatore from March where he remarked on attorney Joe Tacopina’s involvement in E. Jean Carroll’s defamation suit against Tump and said, “As to who’s gonna try the case, I know that Joe has certain potential conflict issues given his prior contacts with Stormy Daniels. So, who is the right attorney to take it to trial is something the client will have to decide.”

At the time of this post, Trump did not comment on the departure of Parlatore from his legal team, but he did make reference to the numerous investigations brought against him in light of the findings of the Durham report.

On Truth Social he wrote, “I WAS BEING FRAMED BY THE FBI AND THE DOJ. NOW IT CONTINUES WITH THE BOXES HOAX, THE ‘PERFECT’ PHONE CALL IN ATLANTA, THE MANHATTAN D.A., AND THE NEW YORK STATE A.G. SCAM. WHAT A GROUP, BUT ALL REPORT TO THE DOJ IN WASHINGTON. IT’S JAMES COMEY AND THE SLEAZEBAGS ALL OVER AGAIN. THEY ARE PLAYING ELECTION INTERFERENCE IN 2024 THROUGH ILLEGAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGAINST REPUBLICANS, IN PARTICULAR YOUR FAVORITE PRESIDENT, ME. THESE ARE CHEATING LOWLIFES, BUT WE WILL WIN. OUR COUNTRY IS GOING TO HELL!”
