Trump blasts feds for ’mishandling and downplaying’ assassination attempt

Former President Donald Trump released a lengthy statement Monday ripping the Biden-Harris Justice Department for “mishandling and downplaying” a second attempt on his life by a would-be assassin in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was arrested after the failed assassination attempt at Trump International Golf Club and has been charged with possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number — prosecutors reportedly said in court Monday the government is prepared to “ask a grand jury to consider a charge that the defendant attempted to assassinate Trump.”

“The Kamala Harris/Joe Biden Department of Justice and FBI are mishandling and downplaying the second assassination attempt on my life since July,” Trump said in the release. “The charges brought against the maniac assassin are a slap on the wrist. It’s no wonder, since the DOJ and FBI have been coming after me nonstop with Weaponized Lawfare since I announced my first Historic Campaign for the Presidency.”

He then detailed all the legal efforts directed against him, including the Russian collusion hoax, two sham impeachments, the Hunter Biden laptop fiasco, and the 51 top intelligence officials, former and current, who dishonestly suggested that it was “Russian disinformation,” as well as his ongoing lawsuit against the DOJ over Jan. 6.

“The DOJ and the FBI have a Conflict of Interest since they have been obsessed with ‘Getting Trump’ for so long. It’s very difficult to trust the Biden/Harris DOJ/FBI to investigate the assassination attempts, due to Election Interference and the FAKE CASES brought against me, including their control over local D.A.s and A.G.s,” Trump said.

“Shockingly, after the bullet went through my ear on that fateful day in Butler, Pennsylvania, the FBI Director went before Congress and falsely said that it may not have been a bullet, ‘It was just glass or shrapnel’ – a lie condemned by even my worst enemies,” he continued. “What he said was disgraceful, especially since it was witnessed LIVE by millions of people, and he was forced to immediately retract.”

After citing the alleged conflict of interest, the 2024 Republican nominee called for the state of Florida to handle the investigation — Gov. Ron DeSantis has already launched an investigation, although he said a few days later that federal investigators are not cooperating with the state officials conducting the probe.

“If the DOJ and FBI cannot do their job honestly and without bias, and hold the aspiring assassin responsible to the full extent of the Law, Governor Ron DeSantis and the State of Florida have already agreed to take the lead on the investigation and prosecution,” Trump said. “Florida charges would be much more serious than the ones the FBI has announced… LET FLORIDA HANDLE THE CASE!”
