Former President Donald J. Trump tore into the New York judge who refused to delay the E. Jean Carroll defamation trial for one day to allow him to attend the funeral of former First Lady Melania Trump’s mother.
On Sunday, the GOP frontrunner was campaigning in Iowa on the day before the Hawkeye State’s caucuses when he blasted Manhattan U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan who wouldn’t permit him to pay his final respects to Amalija Knavs who passed away last week at the age of 78.
“My wife’s mother, who was an incredible woman, a great beauty inside and out – incredible woman – she just died,” he told a crowd of supporters in Indianola.
Trump: My wife is very devastated. Totally fake trial. I asked the judges if we could take a day off for a funeral for my mother-in-law. He said, no. These are animals. pic.twitter.com/DLoMdmoNzg

“And my wife is pretty devastated by that and I have a trial going on, a fake trial, a totally fake trial,” Trump added. “And we asked the judge if I could take a day off for the funeral of my mother-in-law, who was very close to me also.”
“And he said, ‘No.’ These are animals. Can you imagine that…” the most persecuted Republican politician in history said.
“These are bad people, these are radical left lunatics that want to hurt me, because they think it’s gonna hurt me at the polls so that Biden can win an election,” Trump told the enthusiastic crowd who waited in line in frigid weather to hear him speak.
“I don’t think the people are going to fall for it,” he continued. “So my wife who is going to be standing at a funeral of her mother, who was a very special woman….this was a very special incredible woman.”
“So she’s supposed to stand there alone….I’ll be there,” Trump insisted. “One way or the other, I’ll be there,” he added. “But what a disgrace that a judge would not say, ‘Yes, we can take a day off, there’s no rush.”’

“You know, all of these indictments they could have been done three years ago. They saved them all for the election – every one of them,” Trump said, noting the suspicious timing of the lawfare onslaught that has been unleashed against him.
“Lewis Kaplan, the terrible, biased, irrationally angry Clinton-appointed Judge in the Bergdorf’s Hoax, refused to postpone the sham trial next week, even in light of the funeral of my beloved Mother-in-law. This Judge has been ruthlessly unfair from the first day of Crooked Joe Biden’s Election Interfering Witch Hunt,” Trump wrote on Truth Social over the weekend.

“I don’t know this woman, who I have never met (photo line does not count), who doesn’t remember the day, month, season, or decade the event she has made up supposedly occurred. She and her Democrat disgraced operative attorney, who I beat in another Election Interference type Hoax a number of months ago, tried to blackmail me with a dress, but once it was exposed to have no connection to me AT ALL, begged the Judge to exclude it from evidence. Of course, the Radical Judge went along with their wishes…..,” he added.
