Trump says he’s been advised Liz Cheney is coming for him like a ‘crazed lunatic…worse than any Democrat’

If the “House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack” were likened to a circus, former President Donald Trump might consider Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wy.) something of a cross between the ringleader and a clown for her paramount opposition to him “like a crazed lunatic.”

Joined by Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) as the only two Republicans on the nine-member committee, the pejorative Republican In Name Only (RINO) may fall short of accurately defining Cheney as reports of conflict amidst members find her a greater enemy to Trump than the Democrats. The latest of those claims came from The Washington Post Tuesday as it quoted a committee member saying, “Cheney has wanted to make sure we keep the focus on Trump.”

The former president also cited multiple lawmakers and insiders familiar with the workings of the committee when he told The Post in an interview, “From what people tell me, from what I hear from other congressmen, she’s like a crazed lunatic, she’s worse than anyone else. From what I’ve heard, she’s worse than any Democrat.”

Considering that many view the entire process as mere political gamesmanship to benefit future election results, it’s no real surprise that Cheney harbors differing objectives for an end result to the partisan affair. As one insider said to The Post, “The most important objective is the battle for the narrative over Jan. 6 and all that came before it and all that has happened after it.”

For Democrats, that means avoiding “the appearance that [Attorney General Merrick] Garland was investigating Mr. Trump at the behest of a Democratic Congress,” as The New York Times reported on the debate over a criminal referral to the DOJ. For Cheney, the broader implications seem to be whatever helps her political future personally, up to and including a hypothetical run for the presidency. Meanwhile, they continue to claim it’s about seeking justice.

According to The Post:

“The former president said he viewed Cheney as a bigger opponent than even Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), who served as the lead House manager in the first impeachment trial of Trump. He declined to say whether he would appear before the committee or answer any questions, but repeatedly claimed he had asked for the military to be ready in advance of the deadly attack on the Capitol.”

The outlet also reported, “Cheney’s unsparing and legal-minded approach toward Trump and the attack on the Capitol has distinguished her work on the panel. Colleagues say the lawyer by training is the most well-read and prepared lawmaker on the panel. Of the nine members, she has assumed the most aggressive posture toward the former president.”

One committee member was even quoted as saying, “Cheney has wanted to make sure we keep the focus on Trump and the political effort to overthrow Biden’s majority in the electoral college and to attack the peaceful transfer of power.”

However, Cheney, who claims her intentions are pure, has repeatedly denied any conflict within the committee stating, “The committee is working in a really collaborative way to discuss these issues, as we are with all of the issues we’re addressing, and we’ll continue to work together to do so. So I wouldn’t characterize there as being a dispute on the committee.”
