‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ 1am re-run smashes most of CNN’s regular programming

Fox News ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ is such a hit with the outlet’s audience that even its early morning repeat airing beats out most of CNN’s line-up.

According to Nielsen Media Research, the 1 am EST re-run of Carlson’s eponymous prime-time show draws approximately 751,000 total viewers. This puts him ahead of every single live CNN show except three: ‘The Lead with Jake Tapper’ at 798,000, ‘Erin Burnett Outfront’ at 800,000 and ‘Anderson Cooper 360’ at 802,000.

Digging into those numbers, Carlson does even better among the key demographic of viewers aged 25-54. With 154,000 viewers in that range, he bests all but two CNN programs. Cooper manages to scoop up 181,000 key demo viewers, and Burnett pulls in an impressive 183,000.

The only cable news program that has ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ beat in the key demographic is fellow Fox News show “The Five,” which netted a total of 332,000 viewers in that age range for the week of December 12 through December 16.

In fact, “The Five” is so popular among all demographics that it was named the “most-watched show” in all of cable news. This comes as CNN and MSNBC see some of their worst ratings ever in 2022.

Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott released a statement on the network’s massive success.

“From America’s choice on election night to the home of late night’s smash hit show, 2022 was a testament to our unmatched skill in delivering the most innovative news and opinion programming to our audience which continues to rank as the most politically diverse in cable news,” she said. “I am beyond proud of our entire team’s incredible achievements this year.”

According to Forbes, “In the key demo, Fox News finished first with 346,000 viewers (down 7%), followed by CNN (174,000 viewers, down 36%) and MSNBC (133,000 viewers, down 39%). Fox News’ victory marks the network’s seventh consecutive year as the most-watched network in cable television, while CNN and MSNBC both had their lowest-rated years in history.”

As the media industry gears up for what promises to be a contentious 2024 presidential race, it remains to be seen if any outlet can de-throne Fox News.
