WaPo brutally mocked over claim Trump scratched Lincoln Memorial floor: ‘Walls are surely closing in’

At a time when gas prices are crippling Americans, food shortages are looming, inflation and crime are soaring, and our southern border is swinging wide open, the Washington Post has delivered a hard-hitting exposé on a new “freak out”-worthy crime allegedly committed by their favorite orange bogeyman, Donald J. Trump, while he served as President of the United States: In 2020, as the nation was battling the effects of a global pandemic, Trump scratched the floor of the Lincoln Memorial.

Worse yet, Fox News was, if not complicit, at least present when the shocking incident occurred.

If you dig back in your memory vault to 2020, you will remember that then President Trump held a virtual town hall to discuss COVID-19 with Fox News inside the main chamber of the Lincoln Memorial — a space from which events have traditionally been banned by federal regulations, according to The Post. National Park Service personnel provided security.

Amongst the hundreds of documents surrounding the event that were recently released, WaPo found a memo: The 98-year-old monument “had sustained scratches and gouges in its pink marble floor.”

Sure, former President Barack Obama may have been photographed in the monument’s chamber.  He may have even hosted a concert on the steps of the monument for his 2009 inaugural. And yes, he gave a speech on the steps to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech.

But Barack Obama never once sat down with Fox News inside the memorial.

When Trump did that, Kristen Brengel of the National Parks Conservation Association said the Trump administration’s little pandemic pep talk was “in defiance of federal regulations in a space that is hallowed ground to many Americans,” according to The Post.

“This wasn’t a national emergency to do an event inside the Lincoln Memorial,” she said. “This was the commercial use of a park site in the middle of a pandemic.”

Response to the breaking news came swiftly on social media.

“The horror,” responded one user on Twitter. “WaPo investigative journalism at its finest.”

“That’s it,” exclaimed another. “Lock him up.”

A third declared the former President fit for Leavenworth.

Many were certain that, after the Washington Post’s explosive story, the walls must surely now be closing in on Donald Trump.

But most on Twitter saw the blatant attempt at yet another petty hit piece as a sign of the Washington Post’s compromised mental state.

“The first day of Trump’s presidency, the media reported that he got rid of an MLK bust when he actually didn’t,” stated columnist Eddie Zipperer. “Every day since then has been exactly the same.”
