A shifting story on a “war criminal” selfie saw the Washington Post’s Taylor Lorenz on the defensive about an alleged “meme reference” and President Joe Biden.
While Hamas sympathizers descended on Chicago to protest the DNC and “Killer Kamala,” it appeared that “Genocide Joe,” the lame duck incumbent, had not been forgotten. So it was with a post of debatable intent from Lorenz who was caught tweaking her claim after a reportedly private selfie featuring the president and the controversial tag was reported by the New York Post.
After the offending image was shared in a story by the New York Post’s Jon Levine, fact-checks of the picture included the claim, “Taylor Lorenz says this is a digital manipulation which has added a false caption.”
However, after NPR reported that Lorenz had told her own editors someone else was responsible for the “war criminal” overlay on her selfie, while receiving confirmation that four separate people who saw her private post confirmed its authenticity, the reporter had a different tale, insisting it was a joke among friends.
“Only about 7 people saw the actual close friends post (I have very few people on CF) and almost all are my normie non media friends. So [I don’t know] who this guy is talking about [to be honest],” she posted to X Friday.

That contention came after she had responded to a thread of comments that included the fact check from NPR by arguing, “I literally never ‘denied it was real.'”
Levine had made a similar claim when he had reported, “Taylor Lorenz of the Washington Post calls President Biden a ‘war criminal’…She’s denying it’s real, but she has a long history of lying about things like this — and it came to me from someone reliable. So take it as you will.”
A community note added to Levine’s post indicated, “Despite Taylor Lorenz’s denial that she added the caption in question, four people who saw it on her private Instagram story verified its authenticity to NPR.”

What was certain as an excuse was made about the post was that Lorenz had initially countered Levine’s post with the comment, “You people will fall for any dumba** edit someone makes,” signaling responsibility to someone else for the “war criminal” caption.
In response to the selfie, a spokesperson for the Washington Post told Fox News Digital, “We’re aware of the alleged social media post and are looking into it.”
The apparent investigation comes after an Australia-based reporter for The New York Times came under fire for doxxing a private group of Jewish business professionals leading to vandalism and death threats.
Lorenz infamously had her own doxxing story after she revealed the identity of Chaya Raichik, the woman behind the Libs of Tiktok account, which made the point of calling out the latest claim from the Washington Post reporter who was being defended by allies.
“Taylor Lorenz posted this photo calling Biden a ‘war criminal.’ She then claimed it was edited and fake. NPR confirmed the post was real with 4 separate sources so she’s now claiming it was a joke. Tay Tay just straight up lying up again. Is anyone surprised? Why does WaPo keep her employed?”

It takes a special kind of delusion to claim I made a career on stalking Taylor Lorenz knowing one of Taylor’s biggest stories of the last decade was DOXXING ME AND SHOWING UP TO MY RELATIVES’ HOMES. pic.twitter.com/IiYexk1mRN
