WaPo reports Secret Service denied Trump security requests for 2 years – Mayorkas claimed otherwise

The Secret Service had denied former President Donald J. Trump’s requests for extra security for two years before a failed assassination attempt last weekend.

In a bombshell revelation, the Washington Post reported that the USSS “repeatedly denied requests for additional resources and personnel sought by Donald Trump’s security detail in the two years” leading up to the Butler, PA rally where the GOP nominee was grazed by a bullet, narrowly averting death.

The denied requests were for magnetometers and additional agents to perform screenings on attendees at large public gatherings and sporting events attended by Trump as well as more snipers and “specialty teams” for the outdoor event where Trump appeared, the paper reported, citing anonymous sources.

The report contradicts Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas who during a recent CNN appearance, said that a GOP lawmaker’s X post accusing him of denying Trump additional protection was “baseless and irresponsible,” a remark that now looks like a big lie.

According to the WaPo, “The requests, which have not been previously reported, were sometimes denied by senior officials at the agency, who cited various reasons, including a lack of resources at an agency that has long struggled with staffing shortages.”

The report is not a good look for the Secret Service which is under fire for the multiple failures leading up to and during the Trump rally, not the least of which was allowing a gunman to set up on a roof with a clear view of the stage about 150 yards from the former president. Fortunately, he missed the shot.

“The assertion that a member of the former president’s security team requested additional security resources that the U.S. Secret Service or the Department of Homeland Security rebuffed is absolutely false,” Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said after the failed assassination attempt.

But now Guglielmi is singing a different tune and now says that “the agency had learned new information indicating the agency’s headquarters may have in fact denied some requests for additional security from Trump’s detail and was reviewing documentation to understand the specific interactions better,” according to the Washington Post.

“The Secret Service has a vast, challenging, and intricate mission,” Guglielmi said in a statement, according to the outlet. “Every day we work in a dynamic threat environment to ensure our protectees are safe and secure across multiple events, travel, and other difficult environments. We execute a comprehensive and layered strategy to balance personnel, technology, and specialized operational needs.”

Denial of additional Secret Service protection from Trump would be consistent with the pettiness of the Biden regime, which until last week, had also refused to protect independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. despite his family’s history of political assassinations.

The Washington Post bombshell comes amid reports that Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle could soon step down and as congressional Republicans are demanding answers on the incomprehensible failures that nearly lead to Trump being killed.
