‘We cannot put up with this BS anymore’: Rick Scott explains why he challenged Mitch McConnell in rousing CPAC speech

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) admitted on Thursday that he might be “nuts,” for daring to challenge Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s leadership position, but America can no longer afford to “put up” with “BS.”

“Everybody in Washington said I was nuts,” Scott told the crowd on Thursday at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). “I might be. But we cannot put up with this BS anymore.”

“I’m seeking to become the least popular person in Washington and I’m happy to report I’m making a lot of progress,” Scott announced. “I’ve got the president lying about me. Both Democrat and Republican Senate leaders lying about me. Pelosi, she says terrible things about me. You’ve got the president’s incoherent press secretary attacking me, so my plan is working.”

As BizPac Review has reported, the public feud between Scott and McConnell has been long and heated.

At issue is Scott’s plan to “Rescue America,” in which he suggests that “All federal legislation sunsets in 5 years, with specific exceptions to Social Security, Medicare, national security, veterans benefits, and other essential services.”

“If a law is worth keeping,” Scott claims, “Congress can pass it again.”

His plan would also, “Force Congress to issue a report every year telling the public what they plan to do when Social Security and Medicare go bankrupt.”

Exceptions aside, both top Democrats (including President Joe Biden) and RINOs like McConnell jumped on Scott, claiming that he was targeting Social Security.

“Well, unfortunately, that was the Scott plan. That’s not a Republican plan,” McConnell stated in a recent radio interview. “That’s a Rick Scott plan. The Republican plan, as I pointed out last fall, if we were to become the majority, there were no plans to raise the taxes on the American people or to sunset Medicare or Social Security.”

So egregious was the mischaracterization of his plan in the days leading up to the midterm elections, Scott added a bolded clarification to his “sunset” suggestion: “Note to President Biden, Sen. Schumer, and Sen. McConnell – As you know, this was never intended to apply to Social Security, Medicare, or the US Navy.”

Still, in the Red Wave That Wasn’t, Democrats picked up a Senate seat with the jaw-dropping election of John Fetterman (D-Penn.), and McConnell easily sailed to victory, once again being named the GOP leader.

Following the vote, Scott told the CPAC crew that he was told to “quietly apologize” to McConnell for having the audacity to take him on.

“OK,”  Scott stated, “in the infamous words of Conor McGregor: I would like to apologize to absolutely nobody.”

The senator railed against “establishment” Republicans who continuously cave to Democrats and give them “the votes to nail down victory after victory and pass dangerous left-wing policy.”

He then turned his scorn on President Joe Biden, whom he described as “weak.”

“Joe Biden projects weakness and weakness invites the wolves. Weakness invites wars. Look at Ukraine,” he stated.

“Our political system like our president has all been lost,” he continued. “I don’t think any of us can pretend is competent. At times I’m not even sure he is the president.”

According to Scott, our government is controlled by “incompetent neo-Marxists.”

“Unelected staffers who write words for his teleprompter,” he explained. “They are science deniers who can’t tell you what a woman is. They ridicule people of faith. And they hate the values our great country was founded on. They’re hostile to American ideals.”

“Meanwhile,” Scott stated, “our establishment political leaders cut deals with each other for their own political future, knowing full well that their tired old solutions will keep failing us.”
