Democrats are striking back at El Salvador President Nayib Bukele over not cooperating with them by releasing alleged MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia from the prison where he’s being held after his deportation last month.
One potential 2028 presidential candidate has moved beyond angry words into action with Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announcing punitive measures against the Central American country, which faces boycotts from the deep blue state.
The US Constitution guarantees due process.
Donald Trump is eroding it in real time – we must fight back to restore the balance of power.
Today, I’m announcing a series of measures against El Salvador for aiding his unconstitutional deportation scheme. https://t.co/NN085HC8kU

In a Wednesday statement, the governor said he’s directed the Illinois State Board of Investment, the State Universities Retirement System and the Teachers’ Retirement System to conduct a review “to identify any fund investments in companies that are wholly or partially managed, owned, or controlled by the government of El Salvador; established or organized under the laws of El Salvador; or whose principal place of business is in El Salvador.”
Pritzker also stopped procurements from El Salvador and directed the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) Office of Trade and Investment to analyze the state’s trade with the country and report back to the governor’s office.
“The United States Constitution guarantees due process. We are witnessing Donald Trump erode our fundamental Constitutional rights in real time, and we must fight to restore the balance of power,” Pritzker said in the statement. “The State of Illinois will stand up for the Rule of Law and do everything in our power to stop the Trump Administration from ripping apart our most basic rights.”
The morbidly obese billionaire and other Democrats’ newfound concern about due process is laughable. There wasn’t a peep from any of the defenders of “democracy” when the Biden Justice Department and FBI were rounding up peaceful J6 protesters who were jailed and marched before activist D.C. judges for farcical trials straight out of a banana republic.
Not only did the Democrats remain silent on depriving the J6 witch hunt victims of their due process, but they openly cheered it on. Now they are demanding that an illegal alien who has been found to have ties to MS-13, allegedly beat his wife, and reportedly was caught in the act of human trafficking, has rights that loyal Americans had stripped from them by a Democrat administration.
Pritzker’s action – likely the first of many from Democrat governors – comes after top House Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) openly threatened Bukele that there will be hell to pay when the authoritarian left-wing party regains political power.
Radical Jamie Raskin is now issuing threats to @nayibbukele and other world leaders for supporting the Trump admin:
“President Bukele…and other autocrats of the world have to understand the Trump administration is not going to last forever.”

“Look, President Bukele — who’s declared himself a dictator — and the other tyrants, dictators, autocrats of the world have to understand that the Trump administration is not going to last forever,” the former radical college professor turned congressman told MSNBC’s Jen Psaki.
“We’re going to restore strong democracy to America, and we will remember who stood up for democracy in America and who tried to drive us down towards dictatorship and autocracy,” Raskin added.
Despite the dubious wisdom, Democratic presidential hopefuls have made the defense of foreign criminal gang members a litmus test, and Pritzker has already passed with flying colors.
