Chicago Walgreens shuts doors over theft, reveals eye-popping number

A Walgreens in Chicago’s South Side is shutting its doors, and it’s truly no wonder why.

Last week, Chicago Alderman William Hall called for the corporation to be charged with “first degree corporate abandonment” for its decision to pull out of the high-crime area. Apparently they have some sort of moral obligation to continue to operate in an area where their employees get assaulted and their products are stolen simply because no other company wants to do business in such a location.

But according to LibsOfTikTok, the amount of money Walgreens had to spend (and lose) to maintain the location just last year is eye-popping.

“Walgreens reveals the Chicago South Side store they are shuttering after 20 years, lost $1 million mainly due to theft last year, which is 4x the company average, while they spent $400k a year on security and employees still got assaulted,” she wrote.
