Ginni Thomas agrees to J6 committee interview to ‘clear up any misconceptions’

Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, has agreed to voluntarily go before the January 6 Select Committee to tell her side of the story and clear the air.

Her lawyer, Mark Paoletta, released a statement Wednesday on Thomas’ decision.

“I can confirm that Ginni Thomas has agreed to participate in a voluntary interview with the Committee,” it reads. “As she has said from the outset, Mrs. Thomas is eager to answer the Committee’s questions to clear up any misconceptions about her work relating to the 2020 election. She looks forward to that opportunity.”

In January, Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., first remarked about the committee’s desire to speak with Mrs. Thomas in light of messages between her and lawyer John Eastman, as well as communications to former President Donald Trump’s then-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. It is claimed that these messages, as well as others addressed to multiple state officials, contain Mrs. Thomas’ efforts to investigate the results of the 2020 presidential election. The left has claimed that she tried to “overturn” the election of President Joe Biden with her efforts.

Eastman has denied these accusations and wrote a Substack post defending himself in June and tearing into the committee for leaking a “false impression” of his communications with Mrs. Thomas.

“Whether or not those news accounts were true, I can categorically confirm that at no time did I discuss with Mrs. Thomas or Justice Thomas any matters pending or likely to come before the Court,” he explained. “We have never engaged in such discussions, would not engage in such discussions, and did not do so in December 2020 or anytime else.  As for the email communications I had with Mrs. Thomas?  As you can see for yourselves, she invited me to give an update about election litigation to a group she met with periodically.  Those from the January 6 committee who leaked a false impression about that email should be ashamed of themselves, but the Post should be embarrassed for running a story based on their false innuendo.”

A close friend of the Thomases discussed the matter with Fox News in May, accusing Democrats of using Mrs. Thomas to attack her husband, following the leaked draft of the Dobbs opinion.

“With all that’s going on in the world, it’s pathetic that the Post and others are focused on this non-story,” they posited. “Ginni signed a pre-written form letter, like thousands of others. But the corporate press hates Justice Thomas, especially after the leak of the draft Dobbs opinion, and is trashing his wife to attack the Justice.”

It remains to be seen whether the committee will use Mrs. Thomas’ voluntary appearance to help her clear her name or to condemn her for what they already believe she has done.
