Last summer, a Democrat congressman reportedly exploited a House COVID rule/allowance to skip out on dozens of votes and instead go party it up at HBO star Issa Rae’s lavish wedding in the French Riviera.
Enacted by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the rule was designed to let COVID-positive members of the House assign someone else to vote on their behalf so that they could presumably remain at home.
Except in Rep. Mondaire Jones’ case, he decided to exploit the rule so that he could travel to Europe to live the high life.
Ooh La Liar! Rep. Mondaire Jones (D-NY) Said He Couldn’t Come To Congress Because Of Covid …

“Jones employed the potentially misused perk on 17 pieces of legislation between July 19 and July 27, 2021, as he lived it up in France, Instagram posts and online records reveal,” the New York Post reported Wednesday.
“During that period, a series of posts on the picture-sharing social media platform in which the lawmaker is either featured or tagged show he spent time with a group that included multiple entertainment industry professionals who traveled to Paris, Beaune, Bordeaux and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.”
But it gets worse. To qualify for the COVID rule, Jones seems to have lied.
“Pursuant to House Resolution 8, I write to notify you of the designation of a proxy to cast my vote. I am unable to physically attend proceedings in the House Chamber due to the ongoing public health emergency, and I hereby grant the authority to cast my vote by proxy to the Honorable Nikema Williams (Georgia), who has agreed to serve as my proxy,” he wrote in a letter addressed to the House Clerk on July 19th, 2021.
Jones proceeded to hand off his votes “on legislation such as the Divided Families Reunification Act to help Korean American families reunite with family members who remain in North Korea, a bill to ban toxic carcinogens that have been found in New York’s drinking water, as well as the yearly budgets for the federal Health, Labor and Education departments,” according to the Post.
He also handed off votes on the Gold Star Mothers Family Monument Extension Act, on a bill to authorize the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation to create a commemorative project in DC, on the Consumer Protection and Recovery Act, on the PFAS Action Act of 2021, etc., etc., etc.
But it gets even worse.
In response to the Post’s scrutiny, Jones has doubled down, with a campaign rep telling the paper that he has no regrets about his decision to lie.
“It’s hard to tell what The Post is more offended by, Mondaire Jones voting against Republicans multiple times or Mondaire Jones attending the wedding of his close friend, and absolute icon, Issa Rae. I know it makes the Post feel ‘Insecure,’ but Rep. Jones has no apologies for his votes against the GOP or for being with his good friend during the most important week of her life,” the rep said.
To be fair to Jones, this elitist mindset that says it’s perfectly OK for liberal elites to violate the rules they expect everybody else to abide by is ubiquitous in the Democrat Party.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and countless other high-profile Democrats flagrantly violated COVID rules during the height of the pandemic, despite publicly lecturing everybody else about the need to follow said rules.
In response, their rabid base shrugged off their malfeasance and continued their preferred habit of ranting about “evil” Republicans.
It’s a pattern that plays out over and over and over again, most recently with the arrest last month of Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, for drunk driving. Yet as of mid-June, he still hadn’t been charged with any crime, not that any leftists cared.
Did anyone elect Paul Pelosi? No, I didn’t think so. Who cares. Let’s talk about the grifter that lied about his Election Defense Fund.

Paul Pelosi is not an elected official. Who cares if a civilian gets a DUI. I know lots of male “Texans” 🙄who drive under the influence pretty much daily.🧐🤔🤔😒

Who cares about Paul Pelosi. I care about saving children from horrible Republicans who won’t pass any gun control messages to protect United States citizens .

Paul Pelosi DUI…who cares? Other than hoping the guy he hit is ok. We have bigger things to do, people. We have issues in the balance that require our involvement. Let’s get it together. It won’t be easy but we can fix it. Don’t sweat the petty, pet the sweaty. pic.twitter.com/vltdChJWtH

As for Jones, he’s currently a representative for New York 17th’s Congressional District but is running for the 10th district in this year’s race. So, on a side note, is disgraced former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“We know Mondaire is quite unfamiliar with New York City, but remote-control governance ain’t gonna cut it here. Sending votes in from the south of France feels par for the course for MIA Mondaire,” an unnamed rival campaign insider told the Post.
