The very public feud between former President Donald Trump and RINO Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) continues, with Romney calling his nemesis a “whack job” for criticizing the senator’s salacious tell-all memoir on Truth Social.
The latest salvo came via McKay Coppins, author of “Romney: A Reckoning.”
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Coppins addressed Trump’s reaction to the book — a reaction that, in true Trump fashion, pulled no punches.
“Mitt Romney, a total loser that only a mother could love, just wrote a book which is, much like him, boring, horrible, and totally predictable,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I am very proud to be the one who forced this Left Leaning RINO out of politics. He wanted to run sooo badly, but knew he couldn’t win in the great State of Utah without my Endorsement and Support, so he QUIT.”

“His crummy book says nothing good about anybody, other than RINO Paul RINO, who may be worse, and even dumber, than Mitt himself,” Trump raged on. “Does he mention his late night dinner with me at Trump International Hotel when he begged to be Secretary of State, then giving GLOWING COMMENTS about DJT at a follow up News Conference? I didn’t give him the job, NOR DID I EVER INTEND TO. I JUST WANTED TO PROVE A POINT, THAT MITT ROMNEY IS, & ALWAYS HAS BEEN, A LIGHTWEIGHT JOKE!”
According to Coppins, Romney “enjoyed” Trump’s rant.
“I sent that statement to Mitt and hold on, I want to, I’ll just pull up the text,” he eagerly told CNN’s Brian Stelter, who wrote of his interview with the author for Vanity Fair.
“He wrote back, ‘Ha, ha, ha. He’s such a whack job,'” Coppins, an Atlantic staff writer, shared with Stelter. “So Mitt kind of enjoyed Trump’s response.”
Coppins told Stelter that the only reason Republicans didn’t vote to impeach or convict Trump was that they were afraid of his supporters.
“One of the biggest revelations to me in my conversations with Romney was just how important the threat of political violence was to the psychology of elected Republicans today,” he said.
Romney, he revealed, told him “story after story about Republican members of Congress, Republican senators, who at various points wanted to vote for impeachment—vote to convict Trump or vote to impeach Trump—and decided not to, not because they thought he was innocent, but because they were afraid for their family’s safety. They were afraid of what Trump supporters might do to them or to their families.”
On X, Romney’s attempt to zing Trump fell flat.
Romney should be flattered. Trump at least read it. I doubt anybody else will. I certainly won’t.

“Romney’s the ‘whack job’!” one user exclaimed. “He’s nuts enough to think his opinion is relevant to anyone….”
