Scott Jennings pleads with Dems to respect America’s ‘mandate’ and back off Trump for ‘couple of years of peace’

CNN’s conservative commentator pleaded with Democrats on Wednesday to stop obstructing President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda.

Harkening back to Trump’s first election victory, CNN’s Scott Jennings noted that Democrats had begun plotting against him even before he was inaugurated into office on Jan. 20th, 2017.

Moving forward, Jennings argued to Democrats that pursuing this strategy again would be wrong and unfair this time around because of the clear mandate handed to Trump.

“I think he does have a mandate, and that’s how he should read it, and that’s how the Republicans should read it,” he said.

But, he continued, the problem is that resistance to Trump’s potential agenda has already begun to form.

“There was an article in the New York Times in June that said resistance to new Trump administration already forming,” Jennings noted. “And it was this long article about all these groups that were already out there at that time — they thought he was going to beat Biden — planning to try to tie up the administration in court.”

“You’ve had Jamie Raskin out there already saying we’ve got to try to tie him up, maybe even before he’s sworn in. Today, Sheldon Whitehouse in the Senate put out a press release saying we’re going to focus not on progress, but on containing Donald Trump. … This is exactly what happened last time. They were plotting to impeach him before he ever took office back in 2016,” he added.

Concluding his remarks, Jennings then begged Democrats to pursue another route this time around.

“My political advice to all these people is please pick up the election results today and see what happened: The American people want this president and his administration and his party to make progress on the things they promised to do,” he said.

“Can we just have a couple of years of peace for the Republicans and President Trump to do what they promised to do?” he then asked.

Sadly, his message didn’t resonate even slightly with fellow CNN contributor Ana Navarro, a known leftist.

“That’s really rich, though from a party and from Trump who for four years never even acknowledged that Joe Biden had won the election,” she said, completely missing the point.

Jennings’ remarks come as left-wing attorneys general across the country are gearing up for legal warfare against the soon-to-be Trump administration.

Case in point:

“We did not expect this result, but we are prepared to respond to this result,” New York AG Leticia James said Wednesday. “And my office has been preparing for several months because we’ve been here before. We faced this challenge before, and we used the rule of law to fight back.”

“And we are prepared to fight back once again because, as the attorney general of this great state, it is my job to protect and defend the rights of New Yorkers and the rule of law. And I will not shrink from that responsibility,” she added.

“I am ready to do everything in my power to ensure our state and nation do not go backwards. Together with Governor [Kathy] Hochul, our partners in state and local government, and my colleague attorneys general from throughout the nation, we will work each and every day to defend Americans, no matter what this new administration throws at us. We are ready to fight back again,” she concluded.

Meanwhile, four months ago Politico ran a report about how even then — months before the election — Democrat lawyers were preparing for legal warfare.

“Democratic attorneys around the country are already gearing up for the possibility of a second Trump administration by beginning to map out an aggressive legal strategy to fight him again in court — this time with a fresh sense of urgency,” Politico reported.

“Democratic attorneys general are exploring hiring outside experts and dispatching staff to study areas of the law anticipated to come under attack, like reproductive health, immigration and the environment. They are identifying staff members best equipped to fight assertions of executive privilege — which Trump invoked in his most high-profile controversies — and states best positioned to lead bigger cases,” the report continued.

“When you look at the first Trump presidency, you can see the devastating impact some of the policies that were pursued by that administration had on millions of people across our state,” New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin told the outlet.

“We need to be prepared for that possibility, even though it may not come to pass, so we’re not caught flat-footed and we’re ready to stand up for the rights of our residents should that be necessary,” he added.
