House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries got heated during an appearance on CNBC’s Squawk Box when anchor Becky Quick suggested that Democrats are willing to let Obamacare subsidies lapse because it’d hurt Republicans.
Affordable Care Act enhanced premium tax credits are set to expire in less than 6 weeks and Quick asked Jeffries why not consider a one or two-year extension to draw bipartisan support, instead of the three-year extension they are seeking. When the Democratic leader tried to fall back on previous negotiations — the tax credits were at the center of the 43-day government shutdown — Quick shut him down.
“Let’s not go back to what’s been done in the past. If you want something to get done, you need to do something bipartisan,” the CNBC host said.
Jeffries shot back, “You can ask me the question, I’ll provide the answer!
HOLY CRAP! BRUTAL moment as Hakeem Jeffries LOSES IT on CNBC host actually pressing him into answering the question. He just embarrassed himself big time.

Insisting he needed to add context — see Democratic talking points — Jeffries said, “Having this context is important regardless of what you think.”
“It’s important context to make me realize that I don’t think you want to get a deal done,” Quick replied. “I think this is something where you’d like to see the rates go higher and allow the Republicans to hang themselves with that.”
“That’s absolutely a ridiculous assertion,” a heated Jeffries cried out. “Shame on you for saying that.”
“It’s not a partisan issue for us. In fact, the states that are most impacted as it relates to an Affordable Care Act tax credit expiration are all Republican states,” he said, before adding, “It’s not a partisan fight for us, it’s a patriotic fight.”
According to the House minority leader, Democrats are fighting for Republicans, too.
In the end, social media users seem to recognize that Jeffries may be in over his head — here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:

Wild how every time these guys get cornered with a simple question, they start filibustering like the answer might expose their whole playbook. If your “context” takes five laps around the block, maybe you’re hiding the real plan. What are you scared of saying?

The one year extension would allow Democrats to campaign on Obamacare leading into the midterms. This is no longer the case and Hakeem can’t admit that. Becky is right @BeckyQuick

Democrats would rather burn this country to the ground than let Trump succeed in making America great again.
