Well, at least one Dem senator congratulates Trump for ‘historic peace plan’

President Donald Trump’s announcement of an Israel-Hamas peace deal prompted a hearty note of congratulations from one Democrat who has made no secret of his support for Israel.

U.S. Sen. John Fetterman reacted on social media after Trump announced the development, the historic first phase of a peace plan since the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel. The Pennsylvania Democrat, who has been a staunch supporter of Israel despite criticisms from members of his own party, noted his “ironclad commitment” to the nation as he congratulated Trump.

“I congratulate @POTUS on this historic peace plan that releases all the hostages. Now, enduring peace in the region is possible,” Fetterman wrote in a post on X, including a screenshot of Trump’s Truth Social announcement.

“Our parties are different but we have a shared ironclad commitment to Israel and its people,” he added.

“I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan,” Trump announced on Wednesday.

“This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace,” he added.

“All Parties will be treated fairly! This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!” the president wrote.

Fetterman thought the news was “tremendous” and “profound” when asked by reporters about the just-announced peace deal.

Ahead of the announcement, Fetterman posted a video message on the second anniversary of the October 7 terror attack, saying he remains “deeply proud to stand with Israel.”

“As an unapologetic supporter of Israel, the Gaza War must end to have peace and security for Israel and Palestinians,” Fetterman wrote in another post last week. “Politics aside, credit to @POTUS’ peace plan to get to this encouraging point.”
