Whoopi cuts to commercial when ‘The View’ goes off the rails: ‘Just know that something is chewing on us’

As a political debate on “The View” escalated, Whoopi Goldberg jumped in to shut down cohosts Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sunny Hostin.

The two women got into a heated clash as the discussion revolved around President-elect Donald Trump’s choices for cabinet positions, including billionaire and ex-WWE mogul Linda McMahon as education secretary.

The discussion spiraled as Griffin and Hostin tried to make their points about funding for public and private schools.

“What happens with vouchers, the studies show very clearly that they fund students already attending private schools. So people with money, get those vouchers, use the vouchers to pay less for their private schools and their kids go on to do well,” Hostin claimed.

“Where do you get the money from vouchers? You pull that money from the poor schools,” she went on as Griffin tried to interject. “So, wealthy families are overwhelmingly the recipients of school voucher tax credits, I’m not making this up, this has been studied.”

Griffin asked for the source of the claims and tried to make a point again as Hostin continued speaking.

“So, that’s just not my experience. If I may get in just to make it a conversation,” a frustrated Griffin said.

But Hostin did not back off, saying her experience as a mother counted while Griffin shot back, “Well, I went to public school. I believe you got to go to private school.”

Tensions continued as the co-hosts spoke over each other until Goldberg jumped in.

“Nobody can figure out what’s being said here,” she exclaimed.

And as Hostin tried to make “one last” point, Goldberg shut her down. “No, there is no last thing right now, we’re going to go to break.”

“We’ve got to make it a convo,” Griffin urged as Goldberg expressed that was not possible at the moment: “What’s happening is no one can hear anything anyone is saying.”

Even Joy Behar jumped in to tell a complaining Griffin, “Well, that goes for you, too.”

As the show broke for commercial, Griffin could be heard lamenting, “We haven’t gotten a word in! She’s been talking for three minutes!”

When the ABC talk show returned, Goldberg addressed the blowup.

“Welcome back, we’re all here at the table and we’re having a conversation and we’re going to go back to it. Before we do, I just want to say this is the beauty of people who have different opinions. Sometimes it’s messy, sometimes we’re messy,” she said. “There’s something in the air. Just know that something is chewing on us.”

Griffin was now able to finish her point from earlier.

“It’s my belief, as somebody who grew up in the public school system and believes in it and was grateful to be in a really good school district, if you’re in a school that’s falling behind and your parents want to give you the opportunity to get a leg up, your tax dollars should follow you,” the former White House aide said.

But when the women again began speaking over each other, Goldberg intervened, saying, “Don’t make me shut this bad boy down again.”
