Woman sues doctors who rushed her into transgender surgery as a teen, allegedly after just 2 appointments

Luka Hein, who is now 21 years old, is suing the doctors who allegedly rushed her into transgender surgery at the age of 16, removing both her breasts.

Hein spoke with the Daily Mail, telling the outlet the surgery has left her with daily pain. They also pumped her full of hormone treatments that could possibly rob her of being a mother one day.

During her teens, Hein’s parents went through a bitter divorce. A series of events after that led to doctors convincing her parents that if they didn’t push her to become transgender she would commit suicide. The problem is, Hein was never suicidal.

She became more and more withdrawn as things got worse at home. Hein turned to the Internet where she discovered and followed trans influencers. Eventually, she became convinced that she was the wrong gender by the man she says groomed her online.

A therapist allegedly diagnosed Hein with gender dysphoria within an hour during their first session. She was subsequently referred for “top” surgery after her second appointment.

“I was going through the darkest and most chaotic time in my life, and instead of being given the help I needed, these doctors affirmed that chaos into reality,” Hein asserted to the Daily Mail.

I don’t think kids can ever consent to having essentially full bodily functions taken away at a young age before they even know what that means,” she added. “I was talked into medical intervention that I could not fully understand the long-term impacts and consequences of.”

Hein filed a lawsuit in Nebraska accusing the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) gender clinic of malpractice. She is seeking financial damages over the life-altering procedures conducted on an impressionable teenager who did not have the maturity to understand what that meant.

She not only wants financial compensation, Hein is demanding “accountability for the fact that these [doctors] put me through this.” She wants a jury trial as well.

When the young woman went back to the doctors, she was advised to seek mental health counseling according to her 28-page complaint.

“I guess this is just part of your gender journey,” her doctor reportedly told her.

“I was essentially just brushed aside,” Hein told the Daily Mail.

She has since de-transitioned and is once again living as a woman.

The procedures have left the girl with permanent scars, a deeper voice, and erratic hormone levels. She also says she has pain in her joints, lumbar spine, hands, wrists, elbows, and pelvic area as a result of hormone therapy.

“This is really shocking malpractice,” Harmeet Dhillon, Luka’s attorney from the Center for American Liberty, told the Daily Mail.

“Coercive methods were used to coerce the family into agreeing to it, such as a false representation about the mental health fallout from not doing it. ‘Your daughter will commit suicide if you don’t agree to this,’ was communicated to her parents,” Dhillon noted.

Doctors should not behave to vulnerable children or families in this manner, period. Doctors should not be mutilating and permanently disfiguring children, period, without some medical necessity, which did not present itself in this case,” she continued.

The suit names Dr. Ahia Amoura, an OB/GYN physician, and Megan Smith-Sallans, who worked at the gender clinic as an “affirming” therapist. Dr. Perry Johnson, who conducted the surgery is also listed in the suit. So is Dr. Stephan Barrientos, who assisted with the surgery.
