Women’s Network logo earns jeers for shocking shape, pitiful concept

It’s not satire, but somehow that makes the distinctly phallic shape of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet’s Women’s Network’s logo that much more hilarious.

The rollout of the new logo was not exactly the arms-wide-open reception the Australian government may have had in mind, but it got a massive amount of attention anyway. Unfortunately, it was mostly negative and was seen by many as “degrading” and “insulting.”

Yumi Lee, who works at the National Older Women’s Network Australia, slammed the artwork and held nothing back while talking to SBSNews.com.

“They have designed and used a logo for the Women’s Network which, when you look at it, is so insulting to us. It just totally illustrates how out of touch they are,” she explained.

“It is demeaning, it is degrading, and it is a massive slap in the face.”

Twitter users were mixed in their reactions. Some took juvenile glee in the new logo, while others claim that people are looking for reasons to be offended these days. Still others insisted that a massive amount of thought goes into the messaging behind these campaigns, which doesn’t speak well for the agency in charge of the resdesign.
