NYPD dismantles illegal street vendors inundating AOC’s district, but many return with their shady merch

As Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez whines about racism and Republicans, her district is repeatedly invaded by foreign street vendors.

“The NYPD raided an illegal open-air ‘flea market’ operating in Squad member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s district earlier this week, confiscating counterfeit goods and other items,” Fox News reported. “But some sellers have thumbed their noses at law enforcement and are back on the streets peddling their merchandise.”

“The sellers, many of whom are reported to be migrants, have been blocking sidewalks in the Queens neighborhoods of Jackson Heights, Corona, and Elmhurst, shilling various items such as second-hand goods and clothes,” the media outlet added.

Not only does the “Squad” member’s constituents feel she has abandoned them, her district no longer even resembles America and residents are fed up over it. Many businesses have closed for good and are leaving over crime, illegal immigrants swarming the area, and the fact that Democrats such as Ocasio-Cortez refuse to do anything about it except make excuses and blame Republicans.

“Local residents say the neighborhood looks like a Third World country due to its shabby-looking and unsanitary-like conditions. Prostitution is also rampant in the area, with some nicknaming the neighborhood’s main strip along Roosevelt Avenue as the ‘avenue of the sweethearts,'” Fox News elaborated.

Video taken by Fox News Digital shows vendors hawking their wares on the street. Piles of clothes and other items can be seen on sidewalks along Roosevelt Avenue and 91st Street. It’s like looking at a street market in Honduras or Venezuela – everything is for sale including pots and pans, shoes, toys, and much more. Other illegal vendors are plying their wares on Junction Boulevard. There is noted radio silence from Ocasio-Cortez concerning the goings on in her district.

“But on Monday and Tuesday, police were seen raiding the now notorious hotspot along Roosevelt Avenue near 91st Street and loading the goods into the back of an NYPD truck. The sanitation department and other agencies also took part in the raid, police say,” Fox News wrote.

“Now you see it… now you don’t,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry wrote on X Tuesday. “This ‘flea market’ has been at the center of many quality-of-life complaints in Jackson Heights. We conducted an operation yesterday in response to these community concerns… we addressed the unlicensed peddlers, selling counterfeit goods on the streets of Queens!”

Many of the vendors are too smart to get caught by police and hide if they get the word there is a raid on the way.

“Police also posted a photo of dozens of large see-through trash bags filled with phone covers and other accessories from inside the local precinct. The New York Post reports that at least one vendor on the sidewalk had been selling power tools bearing tags from a nearby Home Depot,” Fox News stated.

“In video shot on Tuesday by state Assembly candidate Ramses Frías, a former Democrat turned Republican, illegal vendors could be seen back on the streets flouting the law and pushing their goods,” the outlet continued.

“Like most of my like-minded residents, we see this as a third-world market,” Frías told Fox News Digital. “Basically, you just see clothes thrown across the floor … the items are stolen from donation bins or stolen from stores, and they just set up shop outside brick-and-mortar businesses. They take away trade from these businesses and don’t pay taxes.”

“There are no repercussions; they get a free pass,” he added.

Frias asserted that the police raid was mostly for show and short-lived. He warned that as the weather gets warmer things will get much worse.

“If there isn’t a consistent police presence and/or team set in place to educate these illegal vendors then this will all continue,” Frías, a lifelong resident in the area, told Fox News Digital.

“The constant neglect from the actual representatives of this area like Ocasio-Cortez, Assembly Members Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas and Catalina Cruz, and the rest have angered and frustrated the residents here in these communities. We are done with the mess being brought about by prostitution, open-air illegal markets, and crime,” Frias angrily declared. “Things are spiraling out of control and the lawlessness must come to an end.”

The police raided the edge of Ocasio-Cortez’s 14th Congressional District. Junction Boulevard is also part of her district.

“The area is mostly represented by progressive politicians, including Congresswoman Grace Meng, Assembly Members Cruz, González-Rojas, Steve Raga, and Council Member Shekar Krishnan. State Senators Michael Gianaris and Jessica Ramos, both Democrats, also represent the district,” Fox News noted. “Democrat Council Member Moya also represents the district and has been a vocal opponent of illegal vendors and prostitution and in the neighborhood, often at odds with his fellow party colleagues.”

Democrat Council Member Francisco Moya was reportedly in on the raid with the NYPD. He also joined with Mayor Eric Adams in January to conduct a number of raids on brothels in the area. No arrests were made at that time.

“The number one complaint to my office is the congestion and garbage caused by illegal street vendors,” Moya posted on Instagram following Sunday’s raid. “Mothers can’t push their strollers through our sidewalks, businesses are being robbed and undercut steps from their doors and residents are being put at risk from unsafe food handling. Enough is enough.”

Adams is blaming the vendor situation on illegal immigrants not being able to work.

“Some of the problems we’re facing in our city, this is the byproduct of bringing thousands of people to a city and telling them they cannot work… this is what we’re seeing,” Adams contended on Monday, according to Fox 5 New York. “Some of the illegal shops, sex trafficking that is taking place, all of this is a by-product. … I keep telling folks, you have 3,000 people on Randall’s Island [migrant facility] that cannot do anything all day. That’s just not right.”

Ocasio-Cortez previously said the same thing according to Fox News, “What we are seeing here is the result of anti-immigrant policies that deny immigrants proper work permits and vending licenses, and drive them into the shadows of undignified conditions. This is just one way of many that anti-immigrant policies hurt all of us. Paths to citizenship and work documentation can solve this problem – but Republicans would rather block those so they can film people in their worst moments for views.”

Fox News’ Rachel Campus-Duffy asked residents there last month about Ocasio-Cortez and got an earful.

“We would ask her to do her job of taking care of this neighborhood,” one resident told her according to Fox News.

“She is never here,” one woman complained to Campos-Duffy. “I was a volunteer for her. She completely abandoned our community. I hope that she sees this interview because we all helped her get elected. She said she only cares about Washington and her money. Nobody loves her here anymore.”

Ocasio-Cortez is only in her office there one day a week because it’s a “satellite office.”

“This is a total disconnect between what AOC, who is rarely ever there, is ensconced in her… penthouse in Washington, D.C., and what the people of this community care about,” Campos-Duffy remarked. “They say the conditions are simply unlivable. It’s dangerous, and they want something to change.”
