Democrats will need to find a way to overcome more than their deep unpopularity with the public in their quest to regain control of Congress next year because they also are going have to counter the fundraising juggernaut that is President Donald J. Trump.
According to the Associated Press, Trump has already built a massive $600 million war chest that could swell to $1 billion heading into the midterms, money that could provide a lot of firepower against the onslaught of media propaganda and dishonest political ads that will be unleashed by the far-left party and its wealthy backers.

The outlet cites the now customary anonymous sources in “three people familiar with the matter” in its report on the money which it describes as an “unprecedented sum in modern politics.”
AP reports that the president is “keeping an aggressive fundraising schedule” with a goal of raising at least $1 billion in support of his pro-America agenda and to hold onto both houses of Congress in next November’s pivotal midterm elections which, if not carried by the GOP, could cap off the stalling of Trump’s reforms by Democrat-installed activist lower court judges by allowing the party to commence its impeachment operations which would consume the rest of his term.
“The preoccupation with fundraising might seem highly unusual for a president who was notably averse to dialing for dollars when he first ran. But according to people familiar with his thinking, it makes perfect sense: By amassing money, Trump amasses power,” AP states in the story, which, if true, could give nightmares to revenge-minded Democrats.
According to the report, Trump is “eager” to reverse the usual money advantage that Democrats have enjoyed over Republican candidates and also wants to “maximize” his own impact, with any remaining money after the midterms helping to maintain his influence over the GOP.
The outlet reports that the day after he wrapped up his win over the doomed Kamala Harris, the president-elect revealed the “surprising plan” to raise money to top staffers, according to the anonymous sources, and to do so “immediately, not just for the transition and his inauguration, but for political committees that would demonstrate his clout throughout his second term.”
Trump himself placed calls to donors with the message being to “double up” on previous donations, one source told the outlet which reports that Trump has “continued raising money at a rapid pace while president,” providing examples of events including one for “crypto and AI innovators” at the Trump National Golf Club in Virginia earlier this month and a pair of “candlelight dinners” at Mar-a-Lago.
“The operation is being overseen by Chris LaCivita, Trump’s 2024 co-campaign manager, and Tony Fabrizio, the president’s longtime pollster. There are also other entities, including Never Surrender, Trump’s renamed leadership PAC, and outside groups like the Elon Musk-backed Building America’s Future, which LaCivita and Fabrizio have also joined as senior advisers,” according to the Associated Press.
“I’m going to be very active,” the president said of his plans for the midterms during a recent appearance on NBC Sunday morning flagship “Meet the Press,” adding that he’s “raised a lot of money for congressmen and senators that I think are really good people.”
